| What a night! For that matter, what a year! Last night, Thursday June 3rd, was the perfect capper for a really great year for ISM-LA.
I hope everyone who attended last night had as much fun as they seemed to be having. It would be difficult to fake the screams of joy and heartache coming from the tables, especially the Craps table. And although I did not personally get to deal, I know the fellow 2005 and 2006 Board members who did had an absolute blast. We raised a lot of money to help us get ready for next year’s programs, and had a really great time doing so.
On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Gene Surh for pulling the evening together. As his office is next door to mine, and, for full disclosure purposes, he is my boss, I can testify to how heavy his workload is and how much time he put in above and beyond that workload to ensure our night was a success. He was able to carry out his secret dreams of being a high stakes dealer as he manned one of the Blackjack tables’ second dealer shift and I bet he would consider that to be reward enough. The organization thanks him for arranging the kind of night we had envisioned during last summer’s planning sessions. Thank you, Gene.
Thank you to the Hilton LAX. For many years now, they have hosted our monthly meetings at a significantly reduced rate, including providing complimentary parking. Unfortunately, the bargain finally met reality this spring. In order to keep our fees in line, we will be moving to the Hilton Garden Inn LAX for the 2005-2006 program year. We will get that information out and a schedule of the meeting dates later this summer. The Hilton LAX has been a strong partner for ISM-LA over the years and we appreciate all they have done, including last night, to make our events special. We are confident that the Garden Inn’s efforts will be just as exceptional.
And a final thank you to our president, Martin Murch. I don’t think anyone had as much fun as he did last night. Well, Martin, I think the enjoyment and excitement you demonstrated at the tables and as you announced the raffle was evident at each and every meeting you lead this year. ISM-LA thanks you for your service and commitment to making this year as fun and educational as possible.
So that’s it. My last note to the membership. I have enjoyed keeping you informed of all the ISM-LA’s happenings and going-ons this past year. I hope my communications have been helpful, and possibly entertaining as well. As Executive Vice President for the upcoming year, I will be more responsible for planning and designing the actual dinner meeting programs we will all be attending. I am sure that my successor in this communications role will bring their own flare to their recaps and previews. But for this year, I thank you for taking the time to read my rants and raves. I know I am not as brief as I should be, so even if you only got through the first two thirds of my message, I hope it was worth your while.
On behalf of the board, have a fantastic and safe summer. We will see you in September.
Thanks,
Lance
